Boston - December 12, 2006 - Rapid7 today announced that Newbury Comics has purchased the NeXpose award-winning vulnerability management solution to boost security across its 26-store network as it expands its Web presence. Using NeXpose, Newbury Comics will save time searching for vulnerabilities and generate an immediate plan for fixing them and averting a security breach.
“When we expanded from being primarily a brick and mortar business to also conducting Internet sales, our network infrastructure became more vulnerable to external threats,” stated Tom Scott, Director of Management Information Systems, Newbury Comics. “We wanted to minimize risks in our environment and prevent potentially destructive events from occurring. We’re using NeXpose for protecting both our network backbone and devices at our Boston headquarters.”
The chief reason Scott selected NeXpose was its remediation reports, a differentiator from other vulnerability management products he trialed. “Other products found the security problems but didn’t provide a way to solve them,” he stated. “My focus is on finding solutions, therefore it was a huge difference for me that NeXpose explains what I need to do to fix a problem.”
Scott also values the flexibility and power with which NeXpose allows them to scan their network environment. “We can control the infrastructure from the device standpoint rather than just monitor traffic,” he stated. “With the time we save checking for vulnerabilities, we can correct them before they can lead to trouble.”
Newbury Comics plans to expand its NeXpose usage as it continues to broaden online retail operations, further strengthening its network security.

Rapid7's award-winning NeXpose Unified Vulnerability Management (UVM) product is an all-in-one security solution that scans Web servers, Web applications, databases and networks to locate threats, assess their risk to the environment and devise a remediation plan. NeXpose incorporates an expert system to build a knowledge base of facts on the environment it explores and model potential targeted attacks to expose all existing threats. NeXpose provides robust reporting capabilities that ensure compliance with governmental regulations, corporate security configuration policies, and the PCI Data Security Standard. NeXpose is available as an appliance, downloadable software or an On-Demand hosted solution.
Rapid7 is a leader in vulnerability management and compliance, delivering a single unified solution across an organization's entire infrastructure. Rapid7's NeXpose is the only solution that includes support for web applications, databases, operating systems, and network devices in a single system. NeXpose uncovers "hidden" threats that other systems cannot find, while at the same time separating these real threats from excessive “false positive” noise common to most vulnerability management systems. Organizations, including Black & Decker, Trader Joe's, Florida State University, the New York Times, and the City of Philadelphia, continually rely on Rapid7 to mitigate risk and remain compliant. Rapid7 is headquartered in Boston, MA, with an office in Los Angeles, California.
